Game Title: "Brinksmanship"
Date: June 21-22, 2003 Game Location:Gorim’s Pass, Thorin, near the Pathfinder Hold OOG Location:Bluff Mesa Group Camp, Big Bear CA
Plots: The past two weeks have been a time of ritual in all of Thorin. Known as the Rites of the Crafter’s Forge, dwarves and those who live among them gather to celebrate the glory of craft and construction. The fifteen days culminate in the Consecration of the Forge, marked by midsummer’s eve among the surface dwellers. It is an auspicious day for the opening of new mine shafts, the completion of projects, or the finalizing of marriages.
Gorim’s Pass, a tiny human trading town nestled between mountain ridges ten miles east of the Thorin/Gesnor border, has looked forward to the occasion for months, for it marks the opening of the highest passes into Thorin for the short trading season. For decades, these humans have lived off of the trade that comes through the pass and small gold panning operations in the mountain streams. Business relations with the nearby Pathmaker clan have always been cordial.
This year, however, the festive atmosphere has been strained. Tales of spies and stranger folk have worried the Thorin government. New security has been posted at the borders, which means fewer traders coming to look over Dwarven wares or to sell grains and meat bound for the northern holds. In Gorim’s Pass, tensions have arisen with the impending completion of the Pathmaker’s new “Great Passage,” a tunnel through the peaks which threatens the humans’ livelihood and rights to “surface gold.” Even the honor paid the Pathmakers by the impending arrival of Headmen from three of the eldest clans in Thorin, to observe the final opening of the shaft, has done little to improve things.
And now, word is spreading that the tunnel opening has collapsed…
